STUART P. PAPAVASSILIOU, SENIOR EDITOR
Welcome to the Monitor’s Annual Products & Services Issue in which the
overriding message is: it’s all about relationships. While the image of a handshake may not be
the most inspired, sometimes you can’t escape the obvious. Most importantly, it does seem to
capture the essence of it all.

And by all, I not only mean the relationships central to service provider arrangements, but the
resounding message communicated by the nearly 300 equipment leasing and finance executives
who took the time to complete the Monitor’s third annual Executive Survey as well. For their take
on the industry, I invite you to turn to page 33. In this issue, we present Andrew Lea’s take on
cloud computing and how it relates to the industry. GE Capital’s Dave Labrozzi takes us to another
set of clouds with some tips on corporate aircraft financing. And while there’s a good deal more, I’d
especially like to point out that this issue features the conclusion of Bill Bosco’s six-part series on
the impact of lease accounting changes on various equipment types. This installment focuses on
the healthcare sector. On behalf of the Monitor, I thank Bill for his willingness to share his wealth
of knowledge with our readers.

Speaking of series, we conclude Ken Naglewski’s two-part article on the “must do’s” in the stra-
tegic planning process. Barry Marks offers his thoughts on the importance of CLP designation,
and Linda Kester returns with nine tips for sales managers. We’re very excited to present this
issue’s Profile of Success with an interview with Maureen Carr who ushers in a new generation of
leadership at CapitalSource Corporate Asset Finance. And lastly — only by virtue of the order of
appearance — attorneys Andrew Alper and Ken Weinberg address forum selection and arbitration
clauses and super-priority purchase money security interests. And since content is the name of
our game, we’ve made it our super-priority to bring you the best as we close out the year. And
for a bit of fun, we close out the issue with The Alta Group’s Michael Fleming’s take on the state
of the industry as it relates to the long-awaited economic recovery. Here, we merge Michael’s
wisdom with Jerry Gonzalez’ whimsy in this issue’s PlayBack. All whimsy aside, we thank Michael
for the piece.

But before we go, I have some tidying up to do. Our photographic faux pas didn’t go unnoticed in
this year’s Conference Issue. To Walter Rabin and Ken Turner, whose photos and names we inadvertently swapped in our executive roundtable, we offer our apologies and thank them for their good
nature. We’ve taken every measure to keep our “heads on straight” so to speak in upcoming issues.
And from an unfortunate mix-up to a more fortunate ELFA 49th Annual Conference attendee, we’re
pleased to announce that Ken Collins, chairman and CEO of Susquehanna Commercial Finance and
past chairman of the ELFA, won an iPad2 at the Monitor’s exhibition booth. Happy surfing, Ken!

writers and columnists and, of course, survey participants — the staff of the Monitor wishes
you a joyous holiday season and a New Year filled with happiness, health and prosperity. We’ll
